Most of the Jenipen poetry you see posted here, could have been written at any point in the last 20 years. I have raided old diaries, writing books and shifted through hundreds of sheets of paper to extract ones that I like, are interesting or even plain odd. Unless the poems are dated, or written in a diary I cannot always be exactly sure when I had put pen to paper, or necessarily what was happening in my life at that point, so some of the "meanings" are clear to me, others completely ambiguous. But then that's the idea for the reader anyway, drawing your own meanings and conclusions. It is interesting as the writer, trying to do the same!
Of course if I do decide to post any poems actually written 20 years ago, then it's highly likely that I will be pointing it out to you - just in case people were to mistake my musings on "The Mysterious Moon" or my clear passion for "My Bike" are actually my 32 year old thoughts! I won't be sharing any of those just yet, as the peachy ones are currently with my friend http://thekraftyfox.blogspot.com/ for some joint creations - we'll keep you posted.
So this was a small introduction before posting the next poem (or song, because there appear to be choruses)! At a guess, I wrote this when I was 16 or 17, when I was using a lot of Clearasil, and the meaning is pretty obvious!
Zit Tit Spotty
It's coming now, it's gonna strike
Gonna hit you all between the eyes
Didn't see it coming, but it came so fast
Thought they'd gone at last
Scars still there from before
Is this one gonna make it worse?
Don't think I can take any more
(Chorus)
Zit Tit Spotty here again
Zit Tit Spotty's face like a moon
Holes in ya head
Holes on ya nose
Wish they were some place else where no one knowz
Zit Tit Spotty
Zit Tit Spotty here again
Fed up of looking at al those nice skins
Want to stop wishing my face weren't diseased
Even when the zits ain't bad
You can tell where they've been
Where's the smooth and baby skin
Hating this purple, red indented head
(Chorus)
Got to get over this vanity of mine
I'm here, I'm alive, I'm not deprived
Can see my face in the mirror
Can hear the things that people say
Can walk down the street
Can see my feet
So from zits, from skin,
I should be able to take the heat
(Chorus)
If you worry, if you care
Then everyone is aware that they're there
Just live
Just love
Just rise above
Got more behind this face of mine
Unlike some, look at thier face - they're said and done
Zit Tit Spotty is here again
Zit Tit Spotty is here again
Just live, just love, just rise above
Zit Tit Spotty can live, can love.
Has risen above.

Next meeting we're SO going to try and put music to that!
